Gifts and Curses

GIFTS AND CURSES

In this world of magic, all children are born with a gift. Every gift is beautiful in its own way, and no gift is inherently "good" or "bad", for all magic is neutral. All gifts are equally powerful, no gift is better than another.

Sadly, this is not a belief of the magical society. Some gifts are deemed better than others, causing a caste system that has been deeply rooted in this society for hundreds of years.

Those with the "best" gifts are held in high esteem, a MAJORITY of them are predjudiced against those of lower classes, they are labled the Elite:
Prophets
Healers
Photokinesis (light)
Pyrokinesis (fire)
Electrokinesis (electricity)
Cryokinesis (ice)
Hydrokinesis (water)

Those with "average" gifts make society's Lessers:
Thiriokinesis (animals)
Geokinesis (earth)
Aerokinesis (air)
Ferrokinesis (metal)
Chlorokinesis (plants)
Audiokinesis (sound)

Some magic can not be seen, because it lives deep within a person. Individuals that possess such gifts are thought to be "without magic", so they and others believe them to be powerless. Such peole are deemed "useless" and are called Arids:
(They usually aren't even aware that they are magical, they think their abilities are normal or don't even notice them)
Cogitokinesis (influence thought)
Cupikinesis (manipulate love & lust)
Mnemokinesis (memory)
Negikinesis (negativity/cause strife/appease)
Opinokinesis (senses)
Pathokinesis (emotions)
Stochokinesis (probability/luck)

A few gifts are taboo, and those that posess these gifts are labled as the Damned, they are not banned from associating with the other classes, but often choose not to because of the ridicule. Upon discovery of their gift, they recieve a mark on their right hand, the mark of the Damned. Useof their powers to harm another even out of self defence--while not against the law--can still land a Damned in prison due to predjudice:
Necrokinesis (the dead) (Necromancy is looked down upon more than any other, many who are discovered to have this power are "unofficially" hunted and killed~hate crimes. They have a specific hand marking)
Biokinesis (physical manipulaiton of living creatures, people included)
Nosokinesis (disease)
Hallucikinesis (visions)
Toxikinesis (acids and poisons)
Umbrakinesis (darkness and shadow)

Every class has a specific and unique marking that is commonly portrayed as a tattoo on the right hand, some cities require classes to bear the marks. The current city, Othellus, does not. But feel free to have your characters be marked (or not, whatever floats your boat). Note, ALL Damned characters born in cities are required to be marked, the one exception being Tortuga.

~Also, let's keep things realistic to avoid overpowered characters. Sometimes, difficult "tasks" can't be performed due to the person's ability being too underdeveloped and amateur. Sometimes, powers don't react the way the person intended~

The Ba'idar Nox
(The Enlightened in The Dark) are a secret cult religion that worships the goddess of chaos, Erisak
Their base is in the location of the origin of Biokins, Corvus Strand. Known to the educated as Corvus Isle, and known to the commons and wretches as Tortuga. While actually a peninsula, "Tortuga" appears to be an Island, as a large mote of sorts was dug to separate it from the main land, but many tunnels run below the dark waters of that forsaken isle.

The Hidden Circle
A guild of thieves resides in Tortuga, their headquarters (Thieves Hollow) lying just outside the city, in the jungle. They are a group of skilled thieves of many different kinetic abilities.  The guild has been led by the Serceri family for over two hundred years and is currently run by Bryn and Talos' grandfather, who has not seen his son since he abandoned the clan to marry a Necrokinetic and leave Tortuga.

Description: The southern portion of the Woodland Continent. A few small villages scatter in the swamp, but most of the activity in this area is that of thieves and pirates. The main town in this area is hidden and serves as a port for ships to and from Tortuga.
